New Job!

So I started a new job at The Legacy House of Logan. It's an assisted living center on 1400 North and I am a CNA. I really love my job. The residents who live there are so fun to talk to to and I love helping people. I truly love going to work...maybe because it's new and exciting, but when I am done working I feel so satisfied. I really enjoy helping and serving people and that is what I do for work. It doesn't seem like work. I know I am making somebody else's life better and that is what I love to do. My mom told me the other day that I am unlike all of her other kids because I know a lot of people and I like to get close and personal to those people so I can help them. Sometimes I get too attached and this can be both a good and bad thing. But that is how I am at work. Everybody I go into help, I ask them tons of questions so I can really get to know them. It makes helping them more fun and they also become more comfortable with me helping them.
Right now I am working NOC shifts, which means nights. But the last two days I have worked swing shifts for my training and i like that much better because I can associate with the residents more. I told Jake, my boss, I want more swing shifts so hopefully he will give me some swing shifts so I can work with the residents when they are awake more.

Ohana Slumber Party

Yesterday was such a great day. Lerin and Alexa drove up from St. George and for the first time in two years Michelle, Stacia, Lerin, Alexa and I got to spend time together. It was so much fun. We went to dinner at Firehouse pizza and just laughed our heads off. It was so much fun to be all together. Those girls make me so happy and I love being with them. After we all (minus Michelle because she is married and has other responsibilities) slept at Stacia's house and had a slumber. Late nights with best friends always turns into crazy fun and everything you do it funny. So we started playing on Photo Booth and here are just a few of our funny pictures.

Winter in April

Yesterday it was all slush, but today it's white, fluffy, wet, cold snow! I want April showers to bring May flowers, not April snow storms.

General Conference

General Conference weekend is such a great time to look at my life and see where and how I can improve. It is a time to get back on track spiritually and recenter my focus on my Savior Jesus Christ. But the gospel of Jesus Christ is so much more than spiritual. The advice and guidance from the prophets and leaders of the church are also to protect me from the ways of the world. A couple things I want to work on from this conference are:

1. What are my desires? I want to think of the desires of my heart for all aspects of my life and keep them in line with the Lord's plan and also what will make me and my future family happy.
2. Tithing - I want to pay tithing the day I get paid instead of a week later, sometimes two weeks later. This will help me balance my budget and be more responsible.
3. Build my testimony daily - it is easy to let one day go by before realizing it has been a week before I read my scriptures last or have really put in time drawing closer to my Father in Heaven.
4. Serve those around me daily.

General Conference is also great time to be with family. I haven't been home for quite a while and it has been nice to be here with everybody. We have been playing games, watching sports, listening to conference and laughing... a lot! Yesterday was Isaac's 25th birthday. He truly is the best brother I could ever ask for. It was fun celebrating him and spending time as a family.

The Best Day Of My Life

Today, when I awoke, I suddenly realized that this is the best day of my life ever!

There were times when I wondered if I would make it to today; but I did! And becsue I did I’m going to celebrate!

Today, I’m going to celebrate what an unbelievable life I have had so far; the accomplishments, the many blessings, and yes, even the hardships because they have served to make me stronger.

I will go through this day with my head held high, and a happy heart.

I will marvel at Nature’s seemingly simple gifts; the morning dew, the sun, the clouds, the trees, the flowers, the birds. Today, none of thse miraculous createions will escape my notice.

Today, I will share my excitement for life with other people. I’ll make someone smile. I’ll go out of my way to perform an unexpected act of kindness for someone I don’t even know.

Today, i’ll give a sincere compliment to someone who seems down. I’ll tell a child how special he is, and I’ll tell someone I love just how deeply I care for them and how much they mean to me.

Today is the day I quit worrying about what I don’t have and start being grateful for all the wonderful things life has already given me.

I’ll remember that to worry is just a waste of time and instead forcu my mental energy on the best possible outcome I can imagine...believeing that everything will be just fine or even better.

Tonight, before I go to bed, I’ll go outside and raise my eyes to the heavens. I will stand in awe at the beauty of the stars and the moon, and I will their beauty fill me with a sense of awe and the divine.

As teh day ends and I lay my head down on my pillow, I will be thankful for the best day of my life. And I will sleep the sleep of a contented child, exited with expectation because I know tomorrow is going to be... THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!

The Moment's That Bring Us Together

Today a member of the USU Greek Community passed away. Trent Walker was a dear friend, leader, brother, son and Sigma Chi President.
A candle light vigil was held in his honor at the Sigma Chi house. When I got there, there were somewhat of twenty people in the circle. As I stood in that small circle I saw Sigma Chis, Kappa Deltas, Delta Sigs, Alpha Chis, Chi Omegas, Sig Eps and Pikes. For the next twenty minutes the circle grew bigger and bigger, soon filling the front walk and porch of the Sigma Chi house. The only thing that I could think of at that time was how great it is to be a member of Utah State's Greek community. How it's size creates a sense of intimacy and connection to each chapter and individual. How we are all sharing the same basic values and goals. How we all have each other's backs for no other reason but that WE ARE GREEK. It doesn't matter what letters are on the other guys shirt. What does matter, and what is noticed, is the unifying power of all those different letters.
Tonight, we did not gather together as individuals or as chapters, but we stood together as Greeks who represent a community. A community who cares for the greater good of others; who reaches down to help those in need; who celebrates together; who cries together; who loves each other.
Trent, tonight we came to honor and remember you! Thank you for everything you have done for us. For the example you have set and the legacy you have left behind. Although we are at such a great loss with your passing, we have also gained so much. I pray for peace and comfort to come upon your family and loved ones. I pray for you; for the memories you have left, the trials that will come, and for your spirit on the other side.

Change Happens Too Fast

One year ago today, I was happy and surrounded by friends and roommates who I loved and wanted to be around. I was motivated, organized and internally peaceful. I had fun on the weekends, stayed out of trouble and laughed until 3 in the morning, almost every single morning.

Now, I am confused and unsure, full of questions. I hang out with friends but not the friends I love who build me up, make me laugh and love me for who I am. I stay out too late, laugh only every now and then and find myself working harder than I am playing.

How can things change so much in one year? One year isn't that long.

This change has not left me sad because I am very happy. I am busy, doing well in school, fulfilling dreams and discovering myself more each day. I love my family more than ever, they are the most fun and satisfying people in my life. I have made new friends, built upon dreams and serve those around me.

Last night I hung out with a new group of people, most of which I did not know at the beginning of the night. I had more fun with them than I have had in a long time with a group of friends that size. There are many differences between the group from last night and the group I have been with for the last while.

These differences haven't answered my question of how so much can change so quickly, but it has answered the question to why I have felt differently about life. Life is all about attitude, perspective and gratitude. There is more to experience than what you can see, hear and touch in any given moment, I just need to open my mind and find them!

Old friends....

Today I hung out with one of the greatest people in the world... Nicole Bridge! We went to junior high and high school and played softball together! We share a common brain wave which we like to call ESPN, the N stands for Nicole and we partially mock the movie Mean Girls! We have the same sense of humor so we understand each others jokes and just laugh all the time.
We haven't seen each other in over a year! For the past 6 months she has been studying abroad in Amsterdam and totally loved it. Tonight we hung out and it was one of the greatest nights of the summer. We didn't even do anything but talk and caught up on life! You always know a true friend when you can pick up after years and talk like you never skipped a day.

Oquirrh Mountain Temple

My family and I were able to attend the Oquirrh Mountain Temple open house yesterday! The building is simple in design yet elegant. One of my favorite features of this temple is the marble flooring throughout and the vibrant paintings of Christ and other stories from the scriptures.

I cannot wait for the day when I go through the temple, to be filled with the knowledge of this life and the hereafter! Sitting in the sealing room listening to a couples testimony about the importance of eternal families touched my heart and put my life into perspective. There is no other way that I want to be married except for time and all eternity!

Baseball games

Tonight I got to enjoy a beautiful evening at the baseball park. I love it! It was a good game, good company and good Action! (Action is a betting game)

Sleeping In

Last night 2:00 am just didn't seem that late. I wasn't really tired and I was blogging and digital scrapbooking. I had set my alarm at 7:30 to make it to work by 10:00. I turned off the lights and fell asleep instantly.

My mom came into my room at 10:30 and asked, "Are you supposed to work today? It's 10:30!" I flew out of bed and looked at the clock seeing it was 10:36. I frantically got ready and was out the door by 10:45! I was impressed with how good I looked for only 10 minutes and I walked into work at 11:00.

Approaching the studio it looked hectic. There were three appointments there, two viewing and ordering pictues and one waiting to go back. My awesome boss Melissa managed to help all of them at once calmly and collectively. I got into the studio and took a few pictures of a couple cute families.

After, I talked to my boss who just laughed and said not too worry. She said she was kind of worried because I am always ten minutes early and when she noticed I wasn't there she called me.

On the way home I stopped at my brother Jared's work to bring him some glasses and he treated me to Red Mango! It has turned out to be a great day!

Craftiness

So there is a little piece of me that loves art and crafts. It doesn't really matter what kind and if it's a good day then they turn out pretty good.
This summer I decided I wanted to repaint my room and in my mind I had this beautiful vision of how I wanted it. Now if any of you have tried to pick paint before it's not that easy. What you think you are looking at on this tiny little piece of paper and what actually goes on your walls are two completely different colors. So this worried me that my vision may crash and burn all because my color perception gets skewed.
Well after five days of looking over and finally decided on colors, 12 hours of taping, painting, taping and painting my bedroom turned out EXACTLY as I envisioned. So here it is... my vision that came to life!

My Room Before

The taped stripes which took almost 2 hours with my aging parents!

The beautifully envisioned stripes!

The finished product!

Summer Rain

There is nothing I love more than watching a dark gray cloud move in and cool down a warm July day! The smell of rain reaches me before the rain itself and I just sit on my front porch and wait for the beauty of summer as the storm moves in.
I love everything about the rain, the smell, the sight, the sounds and the feel of cool droplets on my warm skin. Standing in the middle of the yard with my arms stretched up and my head tilted back; watching the large drops fall to my face with some poking out my eyes!
The rain is magical and enlivens me! I can feel the thunder as it resonates through my body, and the lightening as it lights up the sky and quickly kisses everything in it's path!

Reunited Adventure

Lindsey Merie and I went on a hike up Big Cottonwood Canyon yesterday. We hiked the Broad Fork trail which is at the bottom of the 'S' turn in the canyon. The hike was moderate and had a great variety of both steep and flat parts and some very rocky parts.
This was our first real adventure we have had together since Summer 2007 in New York. It was so good to be back together enjoying the beautiful mountains which we both love.
We hiked for about two hours crossing the river on this cute little bridge and getting to what we thought was the top. But when we got to this flat/meadow area we noticed the trail kept going, so we did as well. We didn't want to stop because we were so curious to see where this trail led. Around 5:15 we thought we better turn around because it was getting late and we still had to hike down. We didn't make it to the top so we carved our names into two trees so that if we ever hike this trail again we will know exactly how far we went and then can keep going past it.
Linds and I have a goal to do one new hike a week and have many more adventures in store for each other!

Lost without my best friend

Two weeks ago my best friend of my entire life left for her mission! It is so hard not talking to her everyday and being able to tell her all my thoughts, feelings, questions, concerns and adventures. She has always meant so much to me and we have been so close for the past year especially, but I didn't realize how much I depended on her until now, when I can't talk to or see her. I know she is doing the right thing and I am so happy for her! I love her and miss her!

"Let's pack up and move to California"

Today was the first day of our TEAM OHANA road trip! Lerin, Alexa, Merv, Stacia and I are taking one last trip as college girl friends before Stacia leaves on her mission next Wednesday and Lerin leaves on her mission after she gets her call in three weeks!

We left from Salt Lake this afternoon at 3:30 and headed to St. George to spend the night at the twins house! The drive was really great and went by fast! We played a great game of 'My father went to Africa...' and he brought back some great animals!

Once in STG we went to visit Lexa at Harmon's where she works! On the way home we stopped at the adult playground which has some great toys and attractions that are big enough for us to play on. We got so dizzy we all left sick and having to pee!

When we got back, we all had fun and talked about/planned the rest of our trip! We decided that Merv, Stacia and I are going to gamble for our first time together in Vegas tomorrow so Lex gave us all some gambling money! We are sad the twins will miss this moment by a week but it's the last time we will be all together to do it!

Yard Work

There is nothing more satisfying then spending the afternoon working hard in the yard. I mean, you get to be outside enjoying the beautiful spring sun while working hard! Nothing is better! And the best part is at the end of the day you can sit down on the porch with an ice cold glass of ice water and look back at what you accomplished in the day!
